When my father opened the country to outsiders, I voiced concern that we may be invaded through non-physical means. I now bring these concerns to the council. My scholars and I have been doing research as to the religions of outside countries, and I have discovered that their religions are backward, cruel, and promote what we would consider heresy. I do have concern that these religions will spread to the Duchy. These religions will, I believe, bring damage to the societal structure we have carefully maintained over the years.
I bring these concerns before the Council. I am most interested in hearing your opinions, Archbishop.

I believe that, for the time being, we should disallow foreign religion because it could be harmful to the structure of the country.

In my opinion, as Archbishop, I believe foreign religion should not be tolerated. Our societal and cultural beliefs focus upon those of our Church, and maintaining control over the masses can be made easier when following the national faith.
Foreign religion should be outlawed entirely.

While I'm tempted to agree with you, from a military perspective it may be an unwise decision. The fact that so many other nations have strong sentiments towards other religions puts their soldiers at a higher morale against us should we enter combat. I'm also concerned that we may have to simply accept that we will have no more population growth as it stands, since we lack effective means of acquiring new farmland apart from conquest. If we ban foreign religion it may stagnate population by stopping immigration. Worse, it could cause immigrants to come here and protest, which would put more strain on our military.

Absolutely not. The only thing we will gain from legalising these other religions is disunity and corruption. The only thing our forces will lose is corrupt soldiers, and we wouldn't want those anyway. Furthermore, should we require more soldiers, it would be in good standing to simply subsume the Dochvern and subject them to the Trial of the Fire.

While I support the sentiment, my King, I would be careful how you phrase such things. I know you to be well aware of the Vosanski's religion being outside the Black Flame, though we do respect yours, we would not wish our religion and alliance to be infringed upon. I do not doubt your intentions, but I would indeed be careful to avoid the Vosanski believing that you had any reproach to our continued aid.
I cast my opinion with illegalisation, with the points made above that only religions that originate from outside the Duchy be banned.

All of your opinions have been noted and recorded. I believe it would be best for the spiritual and societal health of our people to put a harsh penalty on practice and proselytism of foreign religion in our good Duchy.
I will notify the Crier of this new proclamation.
